New York [RR] ABUJA–Strong indications have emerged that the Federal Government might enlist the services of international intelligence experts in its bid to arrest the raging Boko Haram insurgence in the country.
SATURDAY PUNCH investigations showed that the FG was considering the engagement of some United States troops, who are grounded in asymmetric warfare to complement the efforts of Nigerian security operatives.
An intelligence source told one of our correspondents on the condition of anonymity that while the FG was exploring several options to deal with Boko Haram’s threat to peace, the security chiefs had not briefed operatives of any such decision to bring in US Marines into the country to assist their Nigerian counterparts.
That was the situation until the GSM revolution introduced a new dimension in telephony to this side of the globe. Today, most Nigerians are dependent on cell-phones for daily transactions and other communication needs. Some people appear to have developed a passion for smart phones, tablets, androids, ipads, and other modern communication gadgets.
Beyond acquiring these gadgets and using them for phone calls, many Nigerians have come to realise that they are vital to social networking. Little wonder then, Twitter and Facebook have become the biggest platforms for those that are dependent on internet-based social media to express themselves and reach out to each other.
So far, these social media have made tremendous impact on human communications in the country. Long lost friends and relations have been reunited through such instruments. Socialisation has been taken to another level and information gathering has received a big boost via text messaging, internet chats, and other tools on the web.
The recent anti-subsidy removal protests and nationwide strike have shown just how much the social media could be deployed in making far-reaching changes in the society. They have not only proved to be potent instruments of social change, but dependable media for spreading propaganda or false information.
New York [RR] BOSTON–If you look at Nigeria circa 2007-2012 you would be thinking of France 1775-1779. France was in desperate conditions: French men and women hated their country’s leadership; it was a period of radical, political and social change. King Louis XVI was without money and needed to raise it somehow; Germany and Switzerland and other foreign countries had their troops massed at the boundaries looking for opportunity to pounce; the three estates were ill at ease, the 1st estate, the bishops and other senior church hierarchy was dissatisfied, the 2nd estate, the nobility was rattled and the 3rd estate the middle class (what is left of it) and the lower class was even more disgruntled than the other estates. The estates general had not been called in nearly 150 years. And King Louis XVI made the mistake of his life by calling the estates general in May 1789. The rest they say is history. But suffice it to say that King Louise XVI did not make it through. The revolution consumed him and may of his fellow rulers and a good portion of the nobility. France as a country almost did not make it. But when it did so, thanks to the rise of Napoleon, it revolutionized
New York [RR] CAMEROUN–In addition to communication culled to Republic Reporters has received from multiple sources that say on-the-run Boko-Haram Sect-Fundamentalists leader, Imam Abubakar Shekau said, that President Jonathan is a coward for calling for dialogue while reacting to President Jonathan’s offer for dialogue two days ago. It must be recalled that Jonathan indirectedly labeled Boko Haram as coward, stating that they should come out of hiding and dialogue. “We cannot Dialogue with an entity Without A FACE” the presidency was quoted by Reuters.
We reported yesterday that Imam Abubakar Shekan currently hiding in Cameroun revealed that Boko Haram receive monthly 10 to 100Millions of Naira from some Northern State governors. In the statement, sect leader labeled Jonathan as a coward stating that: “He’s lying. He cannot do it,” Shekau said. “If Jonathan does not repent as a Muslim, even if I die myself, Jonathan’s going to see. He’s looking at me like I’m nobody, but he’ll see.”
According to sources, Shekau acknowledged that Boko Haram carried out the January 20 attacks in Kano, Nigeria’s second-largest city that left at least 200 people dead.
New York [RR] AWKA–The Biafra Zionist Movement has accused the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra of misleading Igbo in the struggle for the actualisation of the Biafra Republic.
The leader of the group, Mr. Benjamin Onwuka, said in Awka on Wednesday that MASSOB had been cashing in on the ignorance of the people to make money for their leaders.
“He (MASSOB leader, Ralph Uwazuruike) himself knows that he is not going about the struggle in the right way that will lead to the actualisation of the new republic,” Onwuka said.
But the Director of Information of MASSOB, Mr. Uchenna Madu, dismissed the BZM’s claims, accussing the group of being sponsored by government to cause confusion among Igbo.
New York [RR] IGWEOCHA–In the time past, this writer wrote an article with the caption “Nigeria: Rivers State – the Bill on Illegal Development published in some online media sites and a few national dailies where he commented on the collection of all sorts of levy from land developers, borehole drilling companies among others. In that opinion piece I noted that “ It is no longer uncommon to see building projects such as the laying of foundation, erection of fence, sinking of borehole and molding of blocks at site of a building stopped by agents who claim to be taskforce for the collection of development fee. Work at such sites can commence only when the agents are settled”.
In the same article I also drew the attention of the appropriate authority charged with the responsibility of overseeing the activities of Ticketing Agents
