That was the situation until the GSM revolution introduced a new dimension in telephony to this side of the globe. Today, most Nigerians are dependent on cell-phones for daily transactions and other communication needs. Some people appear to have developed a passion for smart phones, tablets, androids, ipads, and other modern communication gadgets.
Beyond acquiring these gadgets and using them for phone calls, many Nigerians have come to realise that they are vital to social networking. Little wonder then, Twitter and Facebook have become the biggest platforms for those that are dependent on internet-based social media to express themselves and reach out to each other.
So far, these social media have made tremendous impact on human communications in the country. Long lost friends and relations have been reunited through such instruments. Socialisation has been taken to another level and information gathering has received a big boost via text messaging, internet chats, and other tools on the web.
The recent anti-subsidy removal protests and nationwide strike have shown just how much the social media could be deployed in making far-reaching changes in the society. They have not only proved to be potent instruments of social change, but dependable media for spreading propaganda or false information.

New York [RR] ABUJA–Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan challenged the violent Islamist Boko Haram sect on Thursday to identify themselves and state clearly their demands as a basis for talks, while acknowledging that military confrontation alone will not end their insurgency.
In an interview with Reuters at the presidential villa in the capital Abuja, Jonathan said there was no doubt that Boko Haram had links with other jihadist groups outside Nigeria.
The sect killed more than 500 people last year and more than 250 in the first weeks of 2012 in gun and bomb attacks in Africa’s top oil producer, Human Rights Watch said this week.

New York [RR] ABUJA–There are strong indications that the United States of America, USA, may be gearing up for a possible balkanisation of the country following developments in the last few years.
This indication is contained in a publication credited to NEWSRESCUE in America, where accounts of an article written by Director of the African Security Research Project in Washington, DC and Guest Columnist of AllAfrica Global Media, Mr. Daniel Volman and speakers in an AFRICOM conference held at Fort McNair were given.
It would be recalled that in 2005, the US predicted that Nigeria would cease to be a nation state in 2015 in view of threats posed by continued ethno-religious crisis over the years. Similarly, the United States military had, in May 2008, conducted a war games test called Unified Quest 2008, to ascertain how its military might respond to a war in parts of Africa with a mention of Nigeria.
Also, the question of how to handle possible splits between factions within the Nigerian government was tested with a plan by the Americans to send about 20,000 troops to secure and take over the oil-rich South while the North would be turned into an Arab aligned, possibly terrorist enclave

New York [RR] ABUJA–“Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”- Proverbs 22:6. This passage in the Holy Book, the Bible, is arguably the most recommendable for children’s upbringing – both for Christian and non-Christian parents. It therefore places on the parents the ultimate right and responsibility for raising better children, therefore, making up a healthier society. This advice also ties most, if not all, of the culpability of a child’s undesirable character and choice of direction to its parent(s). While it’s highly commendable for parents to teach their children (wards) the times of life they live in, it’s equally pertinent that these parents train them in the way they should go. Those compelled under One-Nigerian society, more than having been infested with all manner of abominations, still have the opportunity for a better tomorrow; this opportunity is seen by the free gift of God in our children. This is why St. Paul rightly said, ““All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up.”- 1 Corinthians 10:23 (ESV) Parents need to teach their children properly and bring them up to meet up with the vast challenges of today’s world; however, the word of wisdom from God should take the center stage in every child’s upbringing.
