State Insists On Sacking Non-Computer Literate Workers, Written By James Sowole
New York [RR] ONDO—Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State yesterday restated the resolve of the administration to sack all civil servants in the state on Grade Level 12 and above who are yet to be computer literate by December 31 this year.
The governor, who had earlier in the year said that the system could no longer tolerate non-computer literate civil servants, directed the Head of Service, Mr Ajose Kudehinbu, to start the compilation of names of the affected officers
in order to enforce the deadline.
Speaking while declaring open the First Ondo State Council on Information held in Akure, he insisted that there is no way he could cope with such types of workers in the current dispensation, saying since the world is now a global technological village, harbouring computer illiterate as senior bureaucrats would be a disservice to the people of the state.
He noted that despite appeals to some of the workers to enroll in computer schools to update their knowledge, many of them had shunned the advice.
“The December deadline for all Grade Level 12 officers in the state civil service to get computer education or leave the service for new set of vibrant graduates who are well equipped, stands.
“The Head of Service is here, and I am now giving him a directive to start compiling the names of those without computer training. They should leave the service so that we can inject new blood into the system”, he added
The governor wondered why some civil servants in top cadre failed to utilize the opportunities at their disposal in the past to get the required computer training which, he said, would assist them to do their jobs more efficiently.
He also said governments at the various levels in the country should channels their employment strategy towards agriculture and technology revolution.
Mimiko said it was only when government placed emphasis on job creation through agriculture which had been neglected by past administrations that the nation could effectively tackle its employment problems.
