New York [RR] LAGOS–The caption of the article appearing in ThisDayLive on May 6 2012 (http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/gowon-we-did-everything-to-avert-civil-war/115368/) proclaims: “Gowon: We Did Everything to Avert Civil War”. So in fact, Gowon is now claiming that he and whoever else included in “we”, actually tried “everything” to avoid a civil war?

New York [RR] CHICAGO–Nigeria’s situation is utterly hopeless and it is only fools who refuse to see that the only solution to the problem is the division of the country. There will never come a time when it will get better. This conclusion is very easy to reach because the Islamic killers or Boko Haram jihadists are killing for religion. (They can always manifest with different names, Maitatsine or whatever other name but their operations and mission remain the same). For them they do not see anything morally wrong with the killings; it is the work of God they are doing. And since they see their actions as such then they will not stop because that will mean acting in disobedience to their God and religious teachings. The Nigerian Islamic killings

The Case Against Biafra–The Igbo are an egotistical breed indeed. They have this air about them that borders on selfish self-deceit. I remember growing up with stories of how intelligent the Igbo are in comparison to the backward, illiterate and stupid Hausas. Everywhere, the Igbo’s oversized ego pushes them into projecting themselves as a far cleverer tribe than they really are. This perception pervades the whole of Igbo land that I was surprised to find out only a few years back that “Aboki” means “Friend” and not the utterly derogatory collocation that borders on “Dumbo” is it given down the East. I’m not trying to unnecessarily pick on my own brothers; every tribe has their own misconceptions of reality. I’m just giving a perspective.

New York [RR] ABUJA–The Nigerian Optometric Association has raised the alarm over the persistent increase in the rate of glaucoma cases.The statistics given showed that about 4.25 million citizens, specifically those aged between 40 and above are visually impaired.The Vice-Chairman, NOP, Abuja chapter, Dr. Adure Edemeraro, said this in… a statement obtained by our correspondent on Thursday during the ongoing Glaucoma Week.
