The American Consular noted in the cable dated 13 August 2005 that it should be taken as an effort to damage political opponents’ reputations, in an effort to curry the support of the US government.

New York [RR] Credible sources disclosed to RepublicReport New York that affirmatively establish that the Nigeria ‘Senate has questioned former Minister for Petroleum Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke on her eligibility for -re-appointment as Minister by the President, Goodluck Jonathan. In a televised appearance, Senators questioned Alison-Madueke, who has been put forward to join the new cabinet, on the poor state of fuel supplies. Alison-Madueke and seven others were approved by parliament as ministers in President Goodluck Jonathan’s new cabinet, according to today’s proceedings.
