MASSACRE OF THE IGBOS ALONG ORE-BENIN EXPRESSWAY

On behalf of our constituent entities, the Igbo World Assembly (IWA) respectfully appeals to fellow Nigerians and the World at large about the massacre of Ndi-Igbo along Ore-Benin expressway

IWA is Igbo World Assembly that represents the Apex National Organizations( Diaspora) in the various countries in the World such as USA, UK, Spain, Italy, Finland, Netherland, Ireland, France, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, South Africa, Ukraine, Japan, Australia and Canada

The Igbo World Assembly (IWA), the Global Union that represents all the Igbo organizations in the Diaspora wishes to condemn in the strongest term the carnage and wanton destruction of the lives of innocent children, women, and men of Igbo extraction along Ore – Benin road. The pictures of the decimation of lives as shown on the Internet, all over the world, is traumatic and beyond comprehension. The world is still shocked that such an incident could happen in any earthly hemisphere and yet; nothing is being done about it. We take consolation that the Senate recently discussed the incident and appointed a committee that would investigate the atrocity but we hereby state that the appointment of a committee is an ad hoc approach. The lasting approach is to provide adequate security to protect the lives and properties of the citizens.

We need to state categorically that the issue before us now is that criminals wasted a group of innocent Igbo lives. These innocent souls were cannibalized and ran over by a vehicle and at the end of criminal operation, human body parts littered the area and no one accounted for those lives. We are eagerly awaiting the outcome of the report of the committee that the Senate set up to address this atrocity.

The shocking pictures of the carnage began to appear about three weeks ago on the Internet. Before then, there was no discussion or mention of the incident by any organ of the Nigerian government. As the pictures began to appear on the Internet, Nigerian Police Force made his first pronouncement about the incident. It should be noted that before the picture began to circulate, there was no actions from any organs of the government, including the IGP regarding the incident. It should be noted that the current IGP was not the IGP at the time of the incident but IWA still holds the police force accountable for the protection of lives and properties without regard to who is at the helm of affairs.

The question now is why did the IGP at the time failed to take any action? Why did he or any organ of the government waited so long before doing anything about the massacre? How long do we have to wait for this heinous crime to be solved?

IWA is calling for a swift and immediate investigation by all the organs of Nigerian government into this carnage. Additionally, IWA wants the IGP to begin an immediate patrol of all the major highways in Nigeria to avoid the reoccurrence of such destruction of Nigerian lives. Nothing will satisfy an average Nigerian both at home and in the Diaspora, until the criminals, including the driver of the vehicle, who committed the beastly act are brought to justice.

IWA calls for identification of the families who lost their loved ones in the carnage and for the federal government to set up funds to compensate the families as they deal with the modern day holocaust which unfortunately took place in Nigerian soil.

Finally, IWA wants to bring to the attention of the federal government of Nigeria and all the Igbo elected representatives that the latest incident is just a continuation of the mayhem that has continued to take place along the Ore – Benin Expressway where the Nigerians of Igbo origin have continued to meet their untimely death. There have been several incidents where the Nigerian Police have either terrorized the Igbo transporters and commuters or purposely left them at the mercy of criminals. When will this systematic destruction of the Igbo lives and properties end? When will it become a priority of the Nigerian government to protect the lives and properties of innocent citizens in Nigeria highways?

IWA is asking for answers from all the organs of the Nigerian government.

Good question there Mr Osuji but let me start by asking a simple question. What was your reaction when in January 2010,armed youths descended on a small village occupied by Muslim fulani herdsmen and massacred hundreds of innocent people mainly women and children and dumped them in sewers and wells. I would have appreciated if people like you had come out with the question then as to;”WHY DO CHRISTAINS KILL AT WILL WHEN GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY ” . It could definitely have helped a lot for psychologists to look into the matter and profer solution to the unending wanton killings. Unfortunately, while various people are calling for probe into the Genocide and others calling for outright condemnation of the devilish act, people like you went AWOL. Some even pass it as mere incidence that happened amongst many. With due respect sir, you people were wrong. I have said it for those that care to listen that people will soon resort to SELF HELP. So, who do you blame? I think the government and the aiders and abbetters of the crime for real. When I say aiders and abetters, I mean people like you and me who see what is happening but decide to look the other way just because the perpetrators belong to your religion or clan. The state government sat on the issue and look the other way. No single government top functionary went to the poor people to console them on the tragedy as if they have tacitly approved the Genocide. Everything went smooth within government circles with no evidence that the state will do anything about it.
Look my brother, no sane person will condone killing but so far as the authorities will do nothing against people carrying out destruction with impunity, then I will tell you that the last is not heard about these killings. It is left for all those in authority to restore order and punish ANYBODY found wanting in the whole mess starting from 1999 to date. Until then, forget about having peace in that state.

500 butchered in Nigeria killing fields

On the dusty streets of three Christian villages in northern Nigeria, dozens of bodies lined the streets yesterday. Other victims of the weekend’s Muslim fury jammed a local morgue, the limbs of slaughtered children tangled in a grotesque mess.
One toddler appeared fixed in the protective but hopeless embrace of an older child, possibly his brother. Another had been scalped. Most had severed hands and feet.
Officials estimate that 500 people were massacred in night-time raids by rampaging Muslim gangs near the city of Jos, where the Christian-Muslim fault line cuts across Nigeria.
Local journalists and civil rights organisations who toured the area yesterday told The Times they had counted at least 200 victims shot and hacked to death in apparent revenge for sectarian violence in January that claimed about 300 lives from the two communities. Mark Lipdo, a co-ordinator for the Stefanos Foundation, a Christian aid group, confirmed at least 93 dead in one village. “But there are corpses charred beyond recognition,” he said.
Survivors claimed that Muslim inhabitants of the targeted villages of Zot, Dogo Nahawa and Rastat had received telephone calls two days before the attack telling them to leave the area.
Witnesses said gangs waited at main entry points to the villages while others went from house to house, setting the homes on fire.
Those who fled were killed at the exit points. Others were slaughtered after being caught in animal traps and nets as they ran in the dark.
Ben Kwashi, Anglican Archbishop of Jos, said he visited one of three villages engulfed by the violence. “I could see kids from age zero to teenagers, all butchered from the back, macheted in their necks, their heads. Deep cuts in the mouths of babies. The stench. People wailing and crying,” he said.
Nigeria’s Acting President Goodluck Jonathan, a southerner, ordered troops into the riot-affected area “to confront and defeat these roving bands of killers”, he said in a statement. Last night he sacked Sarki Mukhtar, the national security adviser, a powerful figure in the inner circle of the ailing President, Umaru Yar’Adua.
Villagers said army assistance came too late. Christian youths accused the military of complicity in the killings.
Survivors told The Times that entire families were killed, some to the chants of Allahu Akbar — God is Greatest. They said villagers awoke to shouting and gunfire at about 3am on Sunday.
“They then set homes on fire and attacked men, women and children. Many were decapitated,” said Theresa Malinowska, press officer for Christian Solidarity Worldwide. Staff counted the bodies of four babies and 28 children under 5 in one location alone.
Jos is the regional capital of Plateau State, where Christians from Nigeria’s south and Muslims from the north compete over the fertile farmland. The area has often been a flashpoint. In rioting in September 2001 1,000 people died and Muslim-Christian battles killed up to 700 people in 2004.
Jos has been under a dusk-until-dawn curfew since January’s violence. Archbishop Kwashi said he believed a significant organisation was behind the killings because they happened during curfew, with the army in the area.

“I think it is all Christians killed. The Muslims, I heard, had left the village. The kind of co-operation that came into play — that could violate a curfew, that could take the law into their own hand. I worry which village, which town, will be next,” he said.

WHY DO MUSLIMS FIND IT EASY TO KILL FOLKS?

Today, March 8, 2010, I have been looking at the bodies of massacred folks at Jos, bodies lying all over the place. The report is that in the dead of night some Fulani Muslims descended on a Christian village and began macheting the people to death. So far, over three hundred bodies have been countered. No doubt by the time it is all over several more hundred bodies would be recovered.

The dead bodies that litter the ground are reminiscent of the pictures from the 1966 massacre of Igbos in the North. A guy, Kevin Ani, posts those pictures at the several Igbo forums that he prevails and occasionally they come to my mail box and I watch the gruesome pictures in disbelief.

I d not understand how human beings could do such dastardly things to their human beings.

We read about suicidal bombers, Muslims, in Iraq , Pakistan , and Afghanistan and Israel etc strapping bombs on themselves and blowing several persons to death. This tells m that Muslims do not really value the human body, flesh; that they do not care for human life (or, conversely, that they believe that paradise is real and are in a hurry to go there…, OK but they do not have the right to decide to send to paradise those who do not believe in paradise and or are not yet ready to go there).

My question is this: why do Muslims find it easy to kill folks? What is it about Islam that makes its members take to killing folks and not feel bad about them?

Is Islam a religion at all or are we talking about paganism? Religion ought to teach respect for human life, not ready destruction of human life.

As I watch the dead on the ground at Jos I begin to understand why many Igbos believe that they should have nothing to do with Nigeria that they are best served to be in their own republic, Alaigbo Republic (aka Biafra ). Who would blame them if being around Muslims means frequent massacres?

Could a Muslim person please explain to me why his coreligionists find it easy to destroy human life? I am really, really tired of always having to rationalize Muslim cruelty, to try to understand why these folks behave like savages and still call themselves persons of God.

Does their Allah really tell Muslims to do these brutal things? Should we continually be told that only a small fraction of Muslims engage in these heinous acts?

Why don’t we hear about Hindus, Buddhists or even Christians doing this sort of thing; why is mass killing limited to members of Islam?

I am beginning to believe that Islam is not a religion, that it is a mere political ideology with which Arabs intend to terrorize the rest of the world into accepting their lordship.

Obviously in the case of Jos the Muslims want to murder the Christians so as to arouse fear in those remaining alive and out of fear they would allow the Muslims to lord it over them; that is, they are terrorists and are using intimidation to get what they want, control of the people around Jos.

Muslims have entertained us long enough with their weird justifications for being brutal. They tell us that Jews occupy Palestine (never mind that Palestine was the land of Jews before their Diaspora in 70 AD); they tell us that the West is out on a crusade (never mind that it was Muslims who first attacked and took the Christian Holy Land of Israel and Christians mobilized to go re-conquer it in the so-called crusades of the tenth and eleventh centuries); they tell us that the Westerners are dominating them (never mind that no Muslim country has embraced science and technology, which requires aspects of secularism, and industrialized itself hence able to compete with the West. Muslims retain their feudal social organization and like fools believe that those living in seventh century theocratic governance can dominate those with science and technology. Look, if the West is not sentimental, with their weapons of mass destruction could wipe out all Muslims at any moment they so choose. These people ought to start using their minds to think and approach reality as it is and stop subjecting us to their infantile logic.

Finally, let me make it clear that I am not a religionist. However, I embrace metaphysics. In my metaphysics human beings are spirits. In fact they are not even in bodies; however, they dream through dream bodies. Therefore, destroying their bodies does not destroy their spirits. As spirits they live eternally. What this metaphysics means is that Muslims, or for that matter any human being, cannot intimidate me by threatening to destroy my body; the barbarians cannot exercise terroristic power over me by threatening to kill me and folks like me who resent their organized barbarism masquerading as religion.

In the past few weeks, the internet has been inundated with offensive photographs of an accident scene where a driver allegedly crushed to death 19 robbery victims at the Obalende area of Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State.

Fresh details have, however, emerged on the incident, as the man who drove his truck over the robbery victims has cleared the air.
The incident, according to him, happened on July 31 2009. And contrary to the general belief that the driver of the ill-fated luxury bus was ordered to run over his passengers by the bandits, the man whose vehicle crushed the robbers was actually the driver of a truck.

The Edo State born driver spoke with Daily Sun at the police headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja at the weekend. He said he ran over the passengers thinking they were barricades put on the highway by armed robbers. Giving a graphic account on how the 19 robbery victims met their gruesome death, Osayande Idahosa, 40, said he was driving a Seaner Truck with registration number XN 808 BEN on July 31 last year from Benin en route Lagos.

According to him, he was in company with his conductor, Lucky, and the woman who hired him for the trip. The woman, he said, was going to supply some bags of garri.
Idahosa said he encountered a huge traffic jam at Ore but said he decided to continue the journey because of the nature of the goods in the truck.

He said he noticed that there were no other vehicles on the road until he sighted the headlights of some vehicles at Obalende area of Ijebu-Ode. “When I saw the lights, I was happy. I did not know that it was an evil light that will continue to haunt me till eternity,” he said.
Idahosa said immediately he approached the vehicle, he sighted some barricades that looked like logs of wood on the highway. “I thought it was a police check-point, so I slowed down. But I started hearing gun shots. I saw many people firing at me. Out of panic, I decided to run over what I assumed were logs of woods.

“As my truck ran over the ‘barricades’, I noticed that they were too soft. I also heard gun shots and agonizing cries of people. I suspected that I must have killed some people but I did not know who my victims were. I couldn’t control the vehicle and it ran into the bush. I immediately jumped down and took to my heels. “While in the bush, I saw about 20 armed men in civilian clothes searching for me. They were boasting that they would soon fish me out and slaughter me in pieces. At this time, I did not know the fate of my conductor or that of the woman who hired me.”

He explained that while the armed men where searching his vehicle, he ran deeper into the bush where he found a hole in which he hid. The incident, he said, occurred about 9.45p.m. He said he continued hiding in the bush till six the following morning, August 1. Idahosa further said that in the morning, he started hearing the sound of siren and he saw some of the robbers fleeing the scene. When he suspected that the robbers were all gone, he now traced his way to the highway, he explained.

According to him, when he got to the road, he saw another driver who told him that those he ran over were actually human beings. Idahosa was reportedly advised not to venture near the scene as he would definitely be lynched by the angry mob who were still in shock at the huge number of corpses that littered the road. His driver friend, he said, dropped him off at Ijebu-Ode junction where he picked a commercial motorcycle to the Obalende police station and surrendered himself to the policemen on duty. The cops reportedly took his statement and advised him to go back to the scene as the Commissioner of Police, the Divisional Police Officer and other senior policemen were there for an on the spot assessment.

Idahosa said when he got to the scene and sighted the havoc committed by him, he bent down and wept. He then allegedly surrendered himself to the mob who were walling uncontrollably. “But rather than stoning me to death, they all started listening to my story on how I unintentionally killed innocent robbery victims who I mistook to be robbers’ barricades. The sympathizers started consoling me, telling me it was not my fault. The policemen took me along with them and I was with them for four days before I was granted bail.”

He revealed that for the next one month, he couldn’t stand the sight of meat. “Right now, I won’t engage in a night journey anywhere. The pain is too much for me to bear. My wife is devastated. You can’t imagine the agony I go through everyday when I remember how I crushed 19 innocent people to death. But I trust that God will forgive me because I did not know that they were human beings.”
Driver of the robbed Young Shall Grow luxury bus with registration number XF 285 AKD, Okechukwu Okafor, blamed the tragedy on the bad condition of the road.

He revealed that, on the fateful day, he was on a morning trip from Enugu en route Lagos. The journey, he recalled, was smooth until 3.00p.m when he met a traffic gridlock at Ore. He said he was in the traffic for over four hours. In his words, on reaching a point between the Federal Government College, Odogbolu and Babcock University junction along the Ijebu-Ode/Shagamu Expressway, the luxury bus was forcefully stopped by a gang of armed robbers numbering about 50.

According to him, when he saw the intimidating number of the bandits, he jumped out of his bus and took to his heels. He revealed that while in the bush, he was hearing gun shots and wailing of people in agony. “I thought it was the robbery gang that was killing my passengers. It was not until the following morning when I found my way out of the bush that I learnt that it was a truck driver who refused to stop for the robbers that ran over my passengers.”

Okafor said he wept when he was confronted with the crushed bodies of the passengers. “You know, right from the park at Enugu down to the scene of the ugly incident, we had all become friendly. In fact, in my 22 years of driving, I had not seen or heard such a story that looked like a fairy tale.”
Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, said the incident happened on July 31, 2009.

“Following some offensive photographs being posted on the internet by some mischievous people who made the incident looked like it happened recently, the force would like to inform the public that the ugly accident happened on July 31, 2009,” he said.
He said 19 passengers of the luxury bus, including six females and 13 males, were crushed to death by the truck.

He explained that the file in respect of the case has been duplicated and forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

Memoriam to General J.T.U. Aguiyi-Ironsi.

General Johnson Umunnakwe Aguiyi-Ironsi, born on March 3, 1920 would have been 90 years old this year. As the first military head of State of Nigeria his vision was of a truly united Nigeria where freedom, liberty, honest and selfless leadership, respect of individual rights and liberties, and social and economic justice would reign. For daring to enunciate and pursue these noble ideals, reactionary elements from Northern and Western Nigeria murdered him. General Ironsi’s gruesome murder and the massacre of 50,000 of his fellow Igbo people and other Eastern Nigerians by primarily Northern Nigerians were major factors that lead to the Nigeria – Biafra war. That Northern army officers, including officers promoted to sensitive positions by General Ironsi himself, and Northern feudal aristocrats conspired and executed a most horrible genocide against the Igbo and other people of Eastern Region are undeniable facts of Nigeria’s bloody history.

We note that several Nigerian Igbophobes and ethnic jingoists have engaged in the most shameless revision of this chapter of Nigeria’s sordid history. For example, Alhaji Liman Chiroma while delivering a paper at the Nigerian War College in 2002 accused the murdered General Ironsi of “causing the Nigerian civil war.” The world has nothing but scorn for scoundrels who engage in such absurd and ludicrous revisionism. On August 2, 1986, twenty years after General Ironsi’s murder, General Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, first Head of State of Biafra, delivered a most worthy tribute to the fallen general. General Ojukwu stated that: “General Ironsi had a military career that was studded with firsts – first Captain, first Major in the Nigerian army, first ADC to the Governor General of Nigeria, first Nigerian equerry to the Queen of England, first Lt. Colonel, first Battalion Commander, first Brigadier in the Nigerian army, first psc, first Military Attaché to a Nigerian Diplomatic Mission, first Nigerian Commander of a UN battalion, first Major General, commanded the United Nations Force in the Congo, appointed the first Nigerian General Officer commanding the Nigerian Army in 1965..” General Ironsi was a member of the Order of the British Empire, and a member of the Victorian Order, an honor bestowed on him by the government of Austria for his valor in rescuing Austrian nationals during the Congo crisis. General J.T.U Aguiyi Ironsi’s name has been written in the book of gold. May his soul rest in peace!

For the benefit of any Igbo or other Easterner professing love for One Nigeria we warn that the road to loving and serving Nigeria is paved with the skull and bones of eminent Igbo sons and daughters, unappreciated, unsung and un-mourned by decrepit Nigeria. Man, know thyself.
